So, usually to get most function keys to work on laptop keyboard they don't need any kind of driver, filter or program. I have a rugged/military laptop a General Dynamics GD6000 (now out of business) It's running windows 8.1 64bit. The volume function keys work fine but the screen brightness do not, the software control of it power options works and the brightness keys work when in the BIOS or other boot screen but not once in windows. The Wifi/Bluetooth Disable and sleep function keys work in windows as well.

      Any ideas?

So does the F key portion work but not the secondary function, or vice versa? Or neither?

That is usually part of the chipset drivers. Perhaps see if you can track down the manufacturer of the motherboard and see if they still have them since the OEM is no longer around.

The Intel Chipset Drivers are installed.

The only thing I didn't get drivers for is a device in Device Manager called PCI Simple Communications Controller which is likely the smart card slot or the ACPI driver It's VEN 104C DEV 803D So I don't think thats it...

            Hmm..

Used this Driver for it and that worked for that device still can't think of anything else driver wise.

Kinda Surprised It's probably because of a military contract requirement though.

That worked it was the "Launch Manager" application that enables the brightness keys.
