Amplifi HD vs ERX and and AP/AC Long Range

My dads about to pull the trigger on some network gear for his house. Was considering unifi AP and ERX or USG then noticed for $130 on Amazon you can get the Amplifi HD WiFi Router.
Any feedback on why he should not do the Amplifi. I’ve never looked at it because they usually are a $400 bundle in the store.

Do an ERL instead of an ERX.

Troy Hunt just put an Amplifi in for his parents. Said it works really well. I would think for someone who doesn’t want to deal with them the Amplifi would be better.

My buddy has the Amplifi with two mesh endpoints and he loves it. Pretty basic functionality through the phone app though.

The web interface is almost non-existent, so the phone app is the best way to configure the router. One glaring omission is no VPN support, although they did recently announce Teleport.

I told my dad no one on ML claimed to actually own one but everyone "had a friend who has one" and that no one trashed it completely. LOL.
Have tried to look around for specs. Mostly I think replacing the Google Hub Wifi crap with a single unit will be easier for him than mounting an AP from he ceiling. I am not a big repeater person but the unit by itself is about half the price of the Unifi AP/USG combo he was considering.

This Amplifi has turned out to be 1000% than Google WiFi, just wanted to offer some feedback....
Still dont have a necklace camera on anyone's christmas list though, is it still a thing?

Google just released something not so different. A little more practical as it syncs with Pixel 2.
If I understand correctly you wear it to say, thanksgiving day, and it takes pictures when it thinks it should, or you can click a button, then go through them all later...
