The one real exception is SMB. Windows desktops are allowed a very small number of peer ot peer SMB file sharing connections without requiring a server license and CALs. And you can use them as really crappy network routers. But that is basically it. Anything like running a server application on it, you can't do.

      Are you talking about "Workgroups"?

Workgroups are a different thing and are allowed on their own, but do nothing, so don't really matter.

Explaining to people that "no, I cannot sell a device that has a not-for-resale OS license on it."

How did an NFR license even get acquired?

Before my time. Original Altigen server was sold with XP pro license, and was eventually upgraded to Windows 7 with that NFR license.

So basically, the product was never licensed at all and has been pirated since day one 😉

                    Solus is pretty awesome.

It runs respectably so far. It has an odd freeze here and there, but that's because the flash drive is USB 2.0. It just installed drivers for the Wifi on my Mac without needing internet, lol. Let's see if they work.

I tried Elementary, but the screen would start flickering and the install wouldn't complete.

Adding my lab FreePBX install onto my personal zerotier network. Kinda important if I want to add a static IP address for management access.

Misconfiguration by the IT. The OP needs to understand how big is the impact of users accessing a DC over RDP...

Fort Mountain sounds like a location from Dora the Explorer.
