I would wear pants for a video interview. People will very likely figure out that you are bottomless one way or another.

At work now. My skype interview went REALLY well! I interviewed with the Director of Engineering and another senior IT guy. First guy was asking questions I just didn't have an answer to. Then the Director of Engineering got on and I felt it went really well. They are going to discuss me internally and I may be interviewing with people at their Addison office. 😄

Oh, and I wore jeans. I never had to stand up, so we were good.

Cool. Addison is a great place to work. If you can move there, even better. It's an awesome little community.

Where they are located is very close to me, right off Belt Line. 😄

Also I got here a bit late. Always wear pants even to a phone/skype interview. I have had a few phone interviews where I wore full business formal. Dressing for the occasion adds a sort of formality that people can hear in your voice. It can also make you sound more confident, at least from my experience. Although I've never sat at the other end of the table/phone...

Not to mention what if the camera falls or you have to get up.

I agree that you should not half dress - you will be stressed knowing you can't move or whatever. Just a bad idea.

I've always been told about the dress well to "sound confident" thing. I don't believe this though. For me, at least, it is the opposite. I'm more confident when I am more comfortable. I went to a private school that made us dress up every day because it made for "better learning", but the reality was that it just made us more distracted all of the time because we were uncomfortable. Maybe some people feel confident when dressing formally, but that is an arbitrary confidence association for certain people at best and definitely has no universal application. For the reasons that it would make some people confident, it would make others the opposite. And most, I assume, it does not affect at all.
