This FTC statute was also violated: "Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don’t think I owe any money?

If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don’t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe."

        https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

There are a lot of violations from this FTC guidelines page.

@scottalanmiller Just be aware that there is a distinction between commercial and consumer collections, and the rules don't apply equally to both. For example. the FDCPA doesn't apply to a commercial debt.

Cisco, Inc. also used the BBB which we know from other discussions is a scam and used by scam businesses to cover themselves with the pretence of legitimacy when, in fact, they are just paying an agency to protect them from consumer public recourse.

Keep in mind that there is no debt here. Which applies when we are talking about a false situation? I'm honestly not sure. As there is and never was any debt in question, it is as much personal as a business, I would assume. It's just general fraud.

Just one month after all this happened, they are back at it again with hounding us about an account that they fabricated!

Its time to talk to council and get some recourse on this. I'd start pulling phone records, email, and conversations about every instance contact has been made. Present all of your evidence to your council and let them do their jobs.

That's going to have to be the next step. We were hoping that once their head of corporate counsel stepped in and gave assuances that it was over, in writing, that it might have done something. But I guess not.

You may be opening a can of worms about this and might not be the only victims of this sort of thing. I bet you your not, but you are probably one of the first to step forward.

Yeah, no way this is unique to us. Way too weird.

I seem to recall one coming to our general technicians distro, I just ignored them since it is not my job to worry about it. Other people do the licensing stuff, I just implement and go. I just searched our KB system that we add licenses to and what not and there is no mention of Solarwinds. Granted we use the free Kiwi stuff, but nothing tagged as Solarwinds.

We ignored them, as we were not a customer and never had been, and they eventually sent us to collections!

Poking around for a more flexible helpdesk/asset tracking system. Remembered this thread. Struck SolarWinds off the list.
I think we might be using them for something else but I'm not comfortable with giving them any more money after reading this thread.

I wouldn't do business with them in any capacity at this point. Ever.
