You can try and slip it past them.. Just tell them you'll be learning and reading about all of the dumb things people do on SW and laugh while learning what not to do in production!

@scottalanmiller Aw bummer. Will it be back in a non-banned state in the future?

Not in the plans currently, NY was just way too expensive.

I've heard good things about DevOps Days - https://www.devopsdays.org/events as well as the Powershell and DevOps Global Summit- https://eventloom.com/event/home/summit2017 (sold out currently).

I might also look at local VMUG UserCons (free to attend, usually for an entire day, interesting content even if you are not a VMware shop).

              Southern California Linux Expo...

              http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale/16x/cfp

Don't know if it is any good... but maybe worth looking into.

                Beer-o-Con in Rochester NY.

Next Month swing in, spend a few days drinking some amazing beer and have a grand time with myself and @QuixoticJeremy and crew.

                Agreed with this.

Oh that looks interesting, and is close enough to me to drive and not need a hotel.

Does it have to be a Tech conference?

I might suggest you look at some conferences in Florida. I know VMware was talking about one in Tampa maybe in the past few months perhaps? I'm pretty sure Microsoft has one coming up in the next month or two in Orlando as well, and I want to say I heard there is to be a Linux-centric conference also in Orlando before years' end.

Sorry for the lack of names, just rattling off what's on the top of my head. =\

Oooo this looks interesting. We are a very Linux (CentOS as much as possible) heavy shop.

@anthonyh How much do you have to spend? I can setup the PenguinWrangler Tech Conference in St. Louis, MO. A lot of 1 on 1 time with tech people...mainly me.

@penguinwrangler There is no set amount per say (I know there is some reasonable cap of some sort but I'm not privy to that info...I just ask and my boss usually approves). However, if the conference registration is cheap (sub $500) and/or free chances of approval are good.

Give us a month or so to get back to normal, please. 😉 A Lot of places still don't have power yet.

So, I work for a government agency in California. Legislation was passed where the state will not reimburse underlying agencies for travel expenses to states that have law(s) on the book that "have the effect of voiding or repealing existing state or local protections against discrimination..."

Isn't this a breach of the interstate commerce clause?

I don't think so. If California told businesses based in California they couldn't do business with those states, then yes that would be. However, California itself can choose whom they do business with.
