Fleet laptops - what do you like?

@dashrender I've used Dell everywhere. I think I only used HP at one location. I can't really complain. However, I did just get an Asus Zenbook last year for a sales guy. So far, he seems to like it.
I have seen one Zenbook actually still in use today. After we had ours at home for 1 year, and it was working well, I suggested it as a possible option for a Doc. His Gen 2 unit is still going strong. Our Gen 1 as I mentioned died at just shy of the two year mark, and I found many posts with people having the same issue. Really should probably have been a class action item.. just like the SP owners should be getting a class action for a 25% failure rate - but I'm sure MS is replacing them no questions asked in the 1 year warranty period... after that - to bad suckers!

I like my latitude e7270 a lot. I also have an XPS 13 and it's really nice. The new precision line is essentially the exact same thing as the XPS but with higher specs

For fleet, I'd still go with the Dell Latitudes. Get a Dell Latitude E5570 or E5580 to test it out. You may be able to get your Dell rep to configure them with SSDs... if not, you can have bench do them all quick.

I've been looking at the XPS as well. But that e7270 looks like as well. My next laptop will either be an Asus, or one of those Dell models.

LOL - like we have a bench team.

is there any real noticeable difference between i3 and i5 today?

Good point. Although, most of my day is attached to an external display anyway. So it isn't that big of a deal for me personally.

When I was involved in making those decisions at my last company I went with 7000-series Dell Latitudes and had zero complaints.
If money wasn't an option I would probably go with MacBook Pros and all the overpriced associated Mac hardware (monitors, magic trackpads, keyboards, etc..). I've been using a MacBook Pro for the last year and in comparison to my previous Dell Latitude 7440 it performs better and is more stable for what I do.
If saving a boatload of money is your goal, you should check into certified resellers for Dell. There are numerous companies on Ebay that will sell you certified refurbished units with Dell's full warranty for huge savings.

Yes, depending on usage. The first two generation of i-series chips the i3 didn't make much sense for anything but the very basic use case. Today the i3 will do pretty much everything for the generic office user.

yeah, back in the day, my goto was i5... I'm wondering if I can move down to the i3 and be happy for the normal users.

Probably. The i3 today is a decent chip.

You can get 15 inch Precisions.

All Dell Latitude here and so far no major issues. Hard drive fail here and there. Our Standard build right now is a 5470 i5 with 500GB drive (we still get spinning rust, don't ask) and 4GB ram and sofar works with everything we throw at it

You don't need to, dell is still drastically over charging for SSD in many units.

We've been liking the HP 250 G4/G5 range at the moment for the price.
We tend to spend the same money and just see what we can get at the time make and model wise.

@dashrender exactly!

This inspires confidence - they are still using a Windows 8 picture on these units.

@dashrender We had a deal with the supplier they gave us some upgrades to Windows10Pro but I think they do come with 8 COA's
