      @scottalanmiller @coliver @NerdyDad

well, the reason behind the suggestion is that we just had CPE 'vanish' and things not work,.. so where is the CPE? Who removed it? and Where is it now?

Pictures would be needed after each install.

We have all that responsibility on the customer in our terms of service. Similar to what would happen if a Time Warner or DirecTV contract.

Back in my rural WISP days we had several blow away in a storm. A couple antennas were never recovered. That was back when the CPE was $2,000 a pop for a 2mb to 10mb link.

The CPE units from UBNT are so cheap now you could just call it an install/setup fee and still rent/own the equipment.

@NerdyDad I am curious what speeds and prices the market will bare down in your area.

In town, I'm getting 80/10, but that is on cable internet.

Sounds like 10/5 would be a killer offering for your clients.

                  Looking at offering:

                  Residential Speed (Mbps) Monthly Fee
                  (Level 1) 5/1 $30
                  (Level 2) 10/2 $60
                  (Level 3) 25/5 $125

I might have to raise them a little more because I am considering installing taxes and fees into the price and advertising the total price instead of the other guys that advertise their price and then add on taxes and fees.

Have you done any investigating on how much your bandwidth will actually cost?

Not yet. I've heard from others to expect $1/Mb on the first go around, so I'd be looking at about $1k+/month on just bandwidth with a potential 3-year agreement.

Damn, that's a hike moving to the top tier, instead of a savings, there's a premium cost.

                          Ummm, no it is not.

Doh, did the math wrong - but still. around here, the price isn't anywhere near linear like this pricing (even though there is a discount of $25 at the top level).

Lack of choice = high prices.

Right, what is bad for the consumer is good for the vendor. And loads and loads of consumers actually like being taken advantage of. Don't disappoint them.

Absolutely. Some consumers get mad when you dont rip them off since they have become so used to get shafted.

There are a lot of maxims at play, but you'd have to agree that most customers equate price with value.

To that end, lets say he inherited a WISP network and deals were in place to make the internet free and power free. So perhaps he can offer internet for $5/month and still be profitable.

He would have an easier time selling it at $50 than $5 per month. Even I would just assume it wasnt going to be reliable.

To the other extreme of being taken advantage of I agree. That may not realize it, and sometimes we see it on our end.

Customers are often terrible buyers, and it can be to your advantage in internet/voice and much to your dismay if its IT services.

                                            It is not wifi though.

                                            It is wireless broadband.

Stupid users will think they can connect their pone to your wifi.
