I'm wondering if that specific part of guide is still relevant... the 1MB block size .vhdx. I mean, is it still recommended if using XFS instead of ext4? It mentions it for ext4, but I don't use that anymore.

      Here's the link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/best-practices-for-running-linux-on-hyper-v#tuning-linux-file-systems-on-dynamic-vhdx-files

I wouldn't be surprised that the recommendation was based on Ubuntu/Debian installs, since they use ext4 by default. Installing Fedora Server and CentOS uses XFS instead.

I think that this may be general, not specific to ext4. They point out that they are only using ext4 as the example.

I haven't stopped creating Linux virtual disks that way on Hyper-V yet until I know for sure, so I'll continue doing so. I suppose it can't hurt anything if they are smaller than the default, even if it doesn't apply.

Yeah, I see what you mean... you're right. They use it as an example, not specifically.

Right, unless you want to really go out and test this FS by FS, I'd keep doing it. 🙂
