I would like to take handwritten notes on it via my finger or stylus what app is good for this?

a Notepad and pen. It doesn't even require batteries. But, i've heard good things about DioNote for android

If you have a Samsung, you should have "S Memo" already on there. It's not the BEST, but I use it for quick stuff.

What did you end up choosing?

I ended up with Papyrus and it worked great. But as a business device ie Office 365 stuff. I can't use this thing. It is a great toy and I would love it for my entertainment stuff. But for work just not worth trying to use it.

That's how I keep feeling about Androids. They always seem fun and cool until I try to actually get work done or need to reliably be contacted and then suddenly it isn't so much fun. For a gaming device or just a fun device they are the best, no question.

Yes, I use an iPhone 5s. I tried many Androids and a Windows phone and none of them compared at all. I really didn't want to be on an Apple phone but the lack of quality and reliability in the alternatives drove me back. I really put a lot of time, money and effort into Android but holy cow was it a let down. The Windows phone seemed better, and maybe it was, but the bar was pretty low to be better than Android.
And @Minion-Queen just gave a high end Samsung Android another shot and, like we discovered before, it's flashy and cool but when it comes to really working, it just falls flat.

It's funny that I use an iPhone, it is so basic and simple. But the reality is is that I am really into IT but I am not into "gadgets." I like IT in its business context and not in a personal use context. So for me, the iPhone is simple, reliable and a great business tool. So while it is not exciting, "not exciting" is exactly what I look for in my phone.
I also use a seven year old desktop at home and a two year old laptop. Nothing crazy, extremely basic. Just meeting business needs.

We've had a couple of brand new Android devices. The Samsung was just last week. They are getting better, but they aren't up to par yet.

same here I hate gagdgets. I think the are a distraction rather than a help most of the time. but I found my iPhone 4s to be too slow even before it broke. sometimes emails wouldn't even work.
