This is from two days ago but I have been busy and I forgot to post about it but this week MicroFocus purchased Attachmate which was the parent company of both Novell and Suse. So Suse Linux has a new home as of this week.

Any idea what they plan on doing to revive Novell or will they just kill that part off?

Revive? Novell has been going all this time and they just paid a lot of money for it, billions, I would be pretty surprised if they killed it off. You don't normally buy software vendors just to shut them down.

Don't confuse Netware with Novell. Novell always made a lot of products. Netware was just one of them. They have not made Netware in years. Many businesses use Novell products, no one has used Netware in a very long time.

Novell is the company, Netware just one of their product lines. Novell bought Suse to replace Netware with Suse Linux long ago, maybe a decade ago now.

Novell bought Suse in 2003. Eleven years ago!

In addition to the second largest enterprise Linux player, Novell also bought Ximian which made .NET platforms for the open source world. Novell is also the ultimate owner of UNIX intellectual property. When people talk about the original UNIX code and where it is, it is Novell who was shown to own that today.

@scottalanmiller Ah, I just though they had the Netware and Groupware. Along with the Suse Linux. I think they used to own part of RedHat too, if i'm not mistaken.

No, Red Hat has always been independent.

GroupWise is still around but now free, I believe. Novell also makes Filr, iPrint, ZENworks, Vibe, Service Desk and OES still exists. It was OES that directly replaced Netware.
