It's long after the fact, but has anyone used the WET to move someone from a XP pro system to 7Pro?
I used WET a few months back and when restored the person's mail, contacts and calendar were lost (Outlook). I've done some checking and even re-ran the import and still not finding the .pst files.
Just looking at the Modify your Selection options, you can get to the Doc&Settings/$user, but it only shows Desktop, MyDocs, Fav, Start menu, nothing below that.

It's limited. We used to use that all the time at Staples during migrations for new computer setups. It works alright. Not really for a business though.

Laplink has a great FREE tool that they provided to Microsoft

@g.jacobse I don't believe it finds PST files. You can back those up manually though, if it's even required. Do you know if the person has local archived PST files or are they using Exchange w/cached mode enabled?

Laplink - There's software I havn't seen/used since Win95 and DOS. I still have the Yellow parallel cable.

Looking at the Customize option right now, Nothing 'extra' in the folder list: Desktop, Favorites, Documents, StartMenu.
We aren't on Exchange - But we are moving to O365. Previously POP3/IMAP,.. so mail would be in .PST files or something else if installed. I've not seen any Thunderbird or gasp Express setups.

Never used it but, I honestly don't like tools like that. I find they tend to cause more issues than they are helpful. Plus in a business environment everything should be on a server using either a network drive or redirected folders besides the outlook profiles.

Spoke to my brother, he suggested changing the Folder / file permissions to show all files and folders (including hidden).
Changed it, and the folders are viewable,.. so it's a case of MS hiding data from itself.

Agree it should be on the server. But the server isn't even a factor yet since we really don't have one. No AD yet...
Just call me the little Dutch Boy.. I have things going,.. but now where they need to be in a organization. But I'm getting there....

I agree, the few times I've tried it, I've ended up formatting the machine and staring over. I've heard of other people having success with them, I guess I'm just unlucky.

I tried using it once. It took 11 hours and then failed.
