Nowhere in the US has the delays like Albany, that's the worst spot in the system - partially because of the high traffic and partially because of the line switch. And a lot of it happens because of the river there.

Albany is a huge issue. Both to NY and back from NY, but less so in the nice weather.

Because you can stand outside and enjoy the air while waiting for the six hour delay.

Oh is that what it is?

I've not done the PA run because it runs past everywhere I go and not from point to point for me. But Amtrak is super comfortable, that would be my preferred way to get across that region.

@Mike-Ralston has done the Toledo OH to Rochester bit many many times now. The train runs on time on the way to Rochester. But the Albany to Rochester bit is ALWAYS at least 2 hours late.

Only a cafe car available for dining options, I'm afraid. So grab food in Pitt before you take off. Pittsburgh is the home of the Rachael, though, so grab a six pack of IC Lite and a hot Rachael before boarding the train and then get small snacks while on the train itself.

@scottalanmiller Now i have to road trip to our Pittsburgh office I'm hungry!

Pittsburgh, PA is a little over an hour drive for me, and the business class seats are a great value. Looking like I'll be bringing the Pennsylvanian in.
Now, is grabbing a room at the YMCA worth it or not? I'm thinking yes. If your bringing Amtrak in, what's your plan for waiting on the train the next day?

NTG started in Ithaca but put us in Pittsburgh very early on and it was great. The food there was amazing.
