      http://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/04/19/microsoft_windows_phone_insignificant/

"Windows Phone makes up less than five per cent of the active users of our Authenticator Apps, so we have prioritized getting this working with iOS and Android for now," Simons conceded.

"If or when it becomes a big success on those high-scale platforms, we will evaluate adding support for Windows Phone."

Not really surprising, if Microsoft liked it, maybe it would see some love.

@nadnerB Not even slightly surprised here. I don't remember the last time I ran into someone that had a windows phone.

lol, I shall consider myself run into 😉
Seriously though, it's not surprising. MS really missed the boat for smart phones.

                      What a shame...

I really enjoy Windows 10 Mobile. Before I tried Windows 10 mobile, I was an Android fanatic, and I still like it. But I would prefer to run Windows 10 Mobile on my phone. I'm not effected by the "app gap", so maybe that's why.

I don't know why it's not more popular than it is... I guess the previous version of Windows Mobile just left a sour taste in everyone's mouth and there's no coming back. Who knows. Is it really just the app gap factor?

App gap is a huge thing.

Even just from iOS to Android. I cannot find a good sound pressure level app on Android, I have tried lots, many are poor. There are 3 good apps for iOS only, Can't get any on Android.

Now imagine me trying to find an app like that on Windows store. Nobody is developing for it because the market just is not there.

Also, is the hardware as fancy looking as the iOS/Droid counterparts. The Lumia series was alright but it kept missing the "wow that is awesome" feeling.

I've been on Windows Phone/Mobile for a long time, and I really loved it. Using the other OSes was painful in comparison (and at times still is), but my next phone is probably going to be Android. W10M is not being pushed forward by Microsoft in any meaningful way. I can live without the apps because I don't use them, but the lack of improvement is going to push me off the platform.

I'm either going to hold out for the "Surface Phone" if it's anything like I'm expecting, or if not, then most likely an Asus Android phone.

@Tim_G Can you expect the Surface Phone to be 'better' than WinMobile? Will MS just develop it then abandon it like it has done with WinMobile, Zune, RT, countless other things in the last 5-10 years? I hope so. Ive gone 37 years without giving Apple money. Would like that to continue. If Surface phone is abandoned 3 months after release ill be going back to flip phones.

From what I understand, Surface Phone will still run Win10 Mobile, but, will also run standard Windows apps using some kind of Win32 or whatever emulation when docked. Would be cool if it ran them any time, but still... it'll be a very nice phone, and it will run my preferred Phone OS, Win10 Mobile. So either way, it's a win for me.

If all fails, I'm torn between the Asus Zenfone Deluxe and Zoom.

I still have my ZuneHD. Can't do anything with it though since I don't have any Windows machines any more.

I'm looking at going to iOS. I've used several droids and I haven't been impressed. I also want security updates for longer than 2 years.

Windows phone filled a niche in between Android and iOS. That was its greatest strength and its greatest weakness

I did consider a flip phone. Can't find one with a decent camera and I like the touchscreen keyboards too much.

See, I felt that Windows Phone when I tried it was beyond Android from the iOS perspective. Android is the happy middle ground to me, Windows Phone was the wild west of disaster.
