I am curious on how everyone uses Pertino

The clients that have it have it on the Dc (because that is the only file server) and the sale and service tech laptops. They use it to access documents kept locally.
Ok that makes sense.

I use it between my home PC, my dev work PC, my "download" server, my DHCP/DNS server at home, and my phone. I feel like I should get it working on my web server again. Debating on it atm...

You have a DHCP/DNS server at home? Why?

Because I don't use my router for that. I have more power using a server. Router has DNS Forwarding and DHCP Relay setup on it. I have the licenses for Server so why not? Lol

What power do you have?
Easier management of IP leases, visibility of what devices have what IPs, etc. Plus, I get experience playing with Windows Server.

Ok I'll give you the server experience one. One day you will have too much Windows Servers to play with and you wont want to use DHCP at home lol

Why wouldn't you want to use DHCP at home? I can't see every getting away from DHCP in a home environment.

Run a server just for DHCP is the implication here.

OK I guess I can understand that.

Most home routers hand out DHCP addresses so having a Windows Server isn't necessary

Yes I understand that, and now with cloud based services to backup and sync things, short of wanting/needing a home lab environment it's probably not worth having a home lab any more.
Heck it might be cheaper to rent cycles from azure or some other service to do your lab stuff.

I don't think so. I use my ESXi server for dev and prod. I like it because it's how I've done it for a couple years now. I know it's overkill. I just like it this way.

I'm sorry. A question was asked of me, so I answered. A mini-discussion spawned. What is your problem with me today?

We use Pertino everywhere. That is desktops, laptops, all servers both on prem VMs and cloud. We use it on Windows, Mac and Linux.

but what do you use it for? simple connectivity? file sharing? running "local" business line applications from the field?

Wouldn't the answer be, all of the above?
-
@Hubtech all of the above for sure. How do you use a LAN? All the same ways.
