      Taking a page from the Windows book, Ubuntu has decided to move away from its traditional dedicated partition for swap space and instead move to a swap file. There are actually some pretty solid reasons for the move.

        well, it's not a bad idea, nowadays computers have huge amounts of ram so swap is rarely used, and what is the benefit of a swap partition unless you have it in a separate drive?

          Good point. And it makes swap more flexible. Need more, just grow it. Need less, shrink it. You can easily decide later and change quickly without interruption.

            it makes even more sense in virtualized environments. One can easily add more RAM or disk space if required on VM. No need to dedicate partition for it.
