If you're keen for more of that tier, keep hammering at their customer service reps for details/direction on it.

They were not long ago, as well. Then they added more and had a lot available. Then they sold out again. I think that Vultr is growing a lot faster than they had forecasted and they are struggling to get new hardware racked and stacked fast enough to handle the demand.

They are saying one to two weeks. If you go into their Storage VMs list and click on the location you want, they will offer to email you when more VMs are available.

              As I feared:

              Hello Aaron,

Thank you for your interest in our $2.50 'sandbox' plan. We do suggest that you consider our $5.00 plan (we recently doubled resources available at a cost of $0.007/hour).

Why is this awesome plan sold out? This boils down to supply and demand.

Will this offer ever return? Signs point to 'probably, someday' but definitely not within the days ahead. Think weeks/months from now instead. If/when this happens, availability will likely be limited. Please consider visiting/refreshing https://my.vultr.com/deploy periodically (requires valid account login).

              Best Regards,

              Katie

Wow, can't believe that they did it for such a short period of time. That was REALLY short. I get that it doesn't make a lot of financial sense for them, but it was unique and important, I think.

I think they were just overwhelmed by the demand for it and they did not have enough infrastructure to keep it up.

The $5 plans are still better though too.

Oh yeah, they didn't just offer $2.50 plans, they improved their entire lineup. In fact, other than one jump box in a sea of other systems, I didn't care to get any of those tiny systems. They are too small for my workloads, so I really didn't care. I like them for quick spin up, test and spin down systems, though. And I like knowing that they are there 🙂

I agree, I bet people just bought those in droves and caught them off-guard.

That's probably true. At that price anyone and everyone likely was picking them up just to learn things. The cost of creating and destroying them is probably too high.

The cost to create or destroy an instance should be so tiny, shouldn't involve a person at all, most likely it's the running out of resources due to popularity.

Requires IOPS and system provisioning to handle maximum loads. There is a bit of CPU consumer as well. That's why the spin up isn't instantaneous, it's actively doing things for thirty seconds or so.

Should be, but doesn't take much to make $2.50 not worth offering.

And then there is billing overhead, too.

It's also possible as you and I found out that that isn't really the case.

AKA, the front line people don't always know what is going on.

Yeah, nothing free about it, that'd be a "bring your own license" model. Does Microsoft even offer a $10/month license of some sort? Anything that could drop the price point of the license alone?
