Red Hat has written a nice letter to the Ubuntu guys to welcome them into the Gnome fold.

Nice gesture. I'm sure that everyone is happy that they are all sharing development costs now, rather than competing.

I think that this is great for everyone (except for the Unity programmers, of course) because it means less splintering in the desktop environments and more opportunity for consolidation which means more innovation for less cost to everyone.
