@Dashrender
Make sure you have double space than VM at export target, as I have observed that while importing the OVA from XenCenter, it is creating a copy on source (ova) location and then copying to XS7 SR.ug.. 700+ GB, means I need a 2 TB drive or more.
-
@Dashrender Hey Kingston just released a 2TB USB flash drive..
-
lol, If I'm not buying 2 TB SSD drives, pretty sure I won't be buying one of these.
-
@Dashrender I am afraid that you misunderstood about "double space" I mentioned
I was not talking about space on XS server.
Import and Export:
ESXi VM Export to --> My Computer
My Computer --> Import to XenCenterHere in my case, I need to consider about space on My Computer, as I shown in pic, XenCenter is making duplicate copy before importing.....

No, I knew exactly what you were talking about. I don't have many systems over 500 GB (the standard drive in most of my non server machines). I purchased a 3 TB drive for my test XS box, and my current NAS only has 600 GB free. So I'll need to get another drive to add to say my destkop that will hold the 700+ GB image of my VM, and the 700+ GB temp file that it will create during transition.

@Dashrender Okay
-
Done with installation and migration of VMs.
-
How about license ? Do I need to register and get license key from Xenserver.org ?
-
What is Datastore (in ESXi) alternative in XS7 ?
I want to have some space on XS7 itself, to upload ISO images or other files via XenCenter or Shared folder which should be visible to XS7 (to use ISO files while creating VMs).

I tried to migrate one of my baremetal servers this weekend using Clonezilla. The cloning process worked fine. When I tried to restore the image it wouldn't restore because my bare metal server called the drives i had ccsc/c0d0, ccsc/c0d1 and ccsc/c0d2, but inside XenServer they were called sda, sdb and sdc so Clonezilla wouldn't restore them. Fortunately there is a utility that will convert the images to the new names (one drive at a time) which worked without an issue, so I kicked off the restore and waited.
After completion, not completely unexpectedly the system won't boot - it blue screens 0x0000007e which currently isn't helping me know what drivers I need to fix.
So with all of that in mind, I'm considering doing a staged approach (yeah JB already mentioned this - but well after I had started the Clonezilla process) to VMware, then to XS - but I'm back to the storage problem. My ESXi server doesn't currently have enough storage to hand one copy of the 700+ GB system.

No you don't need a license. The licensing is for Citrix supported systems. If you are going the open source, non-supported (community support) edition then you are fine.

The CCSC/C0d1 and c0d2 are because of the raid controller in the system. The clonezilla process pulled the raid information along when it made the image.
Glad you found a solution though.

@DustinB3403 Okay

How about creating Datastore in XS7 to upload images (ISO) to create new VMs ?
-
I have tried to create Storage Repository locally on XS7 but it's asking for SMB/NFS/CIFS details to setup. I do not have other resource (file server) to configure and trying to configure with local storage to upload ISO files, isn't it possible ?
-
Also, there was an Mobile App from VMWare "Watchlist" to monitor and manage VMWare ESXi6 Host, is there something like that available for XS7 ?
-
-
@Danp I have reviewed once you post it here.
And I understand it's giving very limited space.That's fine, I managed it.
Also, how about spinning one FreeNAS VM on XS7 itself and pointing SR to FreeNAS share ;)?
-
Also, I didn't find any Mobile App for XS7 alike "Watchlist" for VMWare, I will assume, there is no such app.
-
Now it's turn to setup backup with Xen Orchestra (open source).
I will refer this thread https://mangolassi.it/topic/7349/xen-orchestra-on-ubuntu-15-10-complete-installation-instructions for that.
