      @Dashrender https://xen-orchestra.com/docs/editions.html

How about VM backup in XenCenter or Xen-Orchestra Free ?

      1. XenCenter : When I googled, there is backup option via Bash or manual way.....
      2. XO Free: No VM backup too 😞 ?

This is a basic edition, allowing you to do administrator tasks on a virtualized infrastructure. It's "like" XenCenter. You can:

      Create VMs, SRs etc.
      Access to web consoles
      Edit resources (VM, pools etc.)
      Make snapshots
      Migrate VMs

XC is only control, not features. And there are reasons that we never use or recommend it. Ignore that it even exists.

It absolutely does, @DustinB3403 uses it and people talk about it all the time. @olivier has been posting about the awesome new backup features that they are working on adding, as well.

You are looking at XOA, not XO. That's the problem. People do that all the time and get SO confused. Everything in XO is totally free, but NOT if you try to use XOA. You can't use the appliance and get stuff for free.

XOA is the fully supported, commercial packaged appliance version. This costs money if you want the features, but comes with inclusive support.

We don't mean XOA when we say XO and the script you are talking about above is for XO. XO is 100% free and open. We recommend you get support both to have support and to support the vendor, of course. But for testing or if you just don't have the budget, stick with standard XO for free and you get all of the features (except support.)

Right now the backup capabilities of XO are pretty basic. It's image based backups like Veeam or Unitrends do, but it does not have the additional technology to open up the backups and pull out individual files. To do that you need to mount the snaps yourself and go through them to grab individual files. In some cases you might need additional tooling from a third party if you want to extract emails from an Exchange database, for example.

But that kind of stuff XO is working on and maybe we will see that included in the future as well, a la Veeam.

@scottalanmiller It's planned to release file level restore in next release (~15 days) if everything go smooth.

This is currently a large amount of work (therefore cost for us) to be able to read VHD files (explaining it will be in Premium version of XOA) and do all the needed stuff on top. But I hope we'll be on time!

                                      They have Deduplication/compression yet?

@John-Nicholson This is something you can do easily on your NFS/SMB remote (eg with ZFS), and because it will be handled transparently at the FS level, no problem with XO.
