What's peoples view on EdgeSwitches? Looking at revamping the Server room here which will include 3-4 new switches being needed.

We like them thus far. Been really good.

I have got one on the shelf ready to plug in and try. Just need some time to play.

The main problem I see with that is that the Unifi switches will require the Unifi Controller to manage them.

But that's exactly why you'd want them. No other reason. If you want stand alone, don't touch Unifi gear from for any of their products.

Agreed, but you already have a bunch of Edge switches.. I suppose you have to start the conversion at some point, but it just feels weird to have a mix - but I guess it really doesn't matter.

Not really since the one group has to be managed one by one anyway.

Anyone have a handy cost comparison chart for the two types of switches?

Assume POE is off the table. The pricing is almost identical.

Well, I have only bought the PoE models. Because if I need a new switch I get PoE to reduce wall wart clutter from IP phones and Access Points.

I do not buy a PoE switch just because I get phones generally. Most clients have switching hardware that does not need replaced.

Drag, they don't have a nice grid like this.

I'm looking at putting a Unifi Switch in one of my remote offices.

I said cost comparison. I know the features. Just been too busy to go look them all up.

So the UniFi lines main feature is central management, just judging from the name? I'm more into Cisco / Juniper / Nortel / Enterasys etc, never dealt with Ubiquiti but I'm open to anything new.

Yes, UniFi would remind you of Meraki, but you host your own controller and don't have to deal with an annual charge for owning the gear.

The UniFi line is also more limited in functionality than EdgeMax when it comes to the routers. I have not compared the switches.

                              I don't care about any routers, I'm a pfSense junky 😉

What kind of hardware are you using for your pfSense routers?
