Recycling UPS Batteries
-
I've amassed a collection of old UPS batteries. (And some laptop batteries as well.) Anyone have any ideas on where to take them, preferably at no cost? Or if at a cost, preferably low?

Laptop batteries can be shipped to me for disposal.. I take them apart and use the cells in other projects. I have about 40 18650 cells from doing this.

One of my clients is a forklift dealer and they have a contract for battery disposal. They let me toss in old UPS batteries whenever I need.

My local Batteries + lets me drop off at no charge.

I think ours is done by Interstate Batteries. But Safety/Maintenance handle all that.

I'm pretty certain places like Battery+ have recycling programs, but how many are you talking about here?

Most metal recycling facilities will pay you cash by weight for them. You usually get $10-20 for lead acid. I am not sure what you get per battery for gel batteries, but I dropped off some UPS(es) at my local recylcler and got over a $100.

Local metal recycling facility just gave us $80 for all our old batteries.

How many batteries and what size were these? The sizes varied as they were from different units. The company had a pile of old ones, because they didn't know what to do with them. I think it was around 60.

@DustinB3403 said in Recycling UPS Batteries: car It wasn't bad. Hitched a trailer and took it over. The recycling center is only 3 minutes away. Didn't even have to unload anything.

If you're in a curious mood split apart the laptop batteries and play with the 18650s inside. I highly recommend you read about them first, but damn are they awesome fun.
