Yeah I think they are wise to that kind of stuff these days.
They wouldn't let me wife off when she was like 8 months pregnant.
A number of years ago, I got selected for jury duty. When I got there, I realized that I knew the prosecuting attorney (friend of the family), so I hoped I could claim that I might be swayed by the fact that I knew the prosecutor... but it backfired. After I said I knew him, he said to the judge "I've known Mr. Ruff his whole life and know him to be an honest and upstanding citizen", which cemented my place on that jury.

I've always gotten out of it by moving to rapidly. The court system never contacts me until I live in a different county or state or country. So they contact me and I say "Oh sure, I can be there, is it okay that I'm not a resident?"

Trials rarely go to jury here, and it's BS. Defendant has to pay a lot of the costs of a jury trial. Something I'd change if declared supreme ruler of the great white north.
