And PC sales of all variety are reaching sales of ? (I'm assuming far more than 100M)

Another benefit of PC's is even if you get a new one, you can still play your old games on it.
With consoles if it dies and the newer generation doesn't support that version game you're done playing that game.
Without repurchasing that older model console. If you even can, which normally you cannot.
-
I would never buy one, just saying people still do. Because they don't care about that stuff, or they just cant be bothered to do the math. My 300 steam games have worked for a decade, will work for another decade at least.

1500 Steam games here!

I bought a Wii and a Wii U. Both were garbage. I won't make the mistake with Nintendo again.

Nintendo hasn't had a good console since the SNES in my opinion. The N64 was better than anything since then, but was nothing but a gimmick, the SNES era was the last time that Nintendo bothered to care about making good games. Everything past the SNES has been dependent on gimmicks to sell what are otherwise absolute garbage games.

Well, next month you can get the classic NES console!

The Super Famicom (Japanese SuperNES) even had a satellite connection add on with a Zelda game!

I actually think this looks legit for once and the 3DS is still on top. This has a chance to become something of legend status. You can play multilayer anywhere and that is a great feature. I may have to put down the 3DS but it all depends on the games for it

Is it called the Switch because it can be top or bottom?

It's Nintendo, so no way we should expect serious or good games. It's bound to be the same, mediocre racing, brawling, jumping and run around shoot things four games every Nintendo console has had for a long time.
That the whole thing can be portable... yeah, I like that. It's neat, a little. But it's the same pattern they've had for a long time... gimmicks are cheaper than good ideas.
-
@scottalanmiller True True...I think the 3DS is worth every penny but mostly because I can play old Sega/Nintendo games and I can LAN and play local with friends. If the switch would let you download/play classic beat up games (Streets of Rage, Bad Dudes, etc) It might be worth it and have a chance.
Or I could just use Steam or CoinOPS on an old Xbox
Time will tell -

My kids both have them. They are good because they are small and durable (the 3DS, not the kids.) But the game selection is terrible and the power of the units is pretty bad. They are so underpowered, it's silly. And the games are unbearable.

That's what we need is a hand held Steam machine.
-
So this is the NX announcement that everyone has been speculating about? If it is portable, is it going to replace the 3DS family? Seems strange that Nintendo would invest into two competing platforms.

How DARE you talk smack about the N64! That was the console of my generation, easily.

I admire Nintendo's insistence on taking risks in what seems to be a stagnant console war, and I think that the Switch as an idea is great--being able to take your "home console" anywhere--but what it ultimately comes down to is game selection, and theirs isn't great.

Mostly because the hardware has be so severely under powered even compared to other consoles that publishers never really made much for them. I'm afraid this is going to be more of the same.
