DS9 continues to amaze me! (Star Trek)
-
So I'm watching s3 e11 Past Tense part 1 and holy cow! The episode happens in 2020 America and the parallels are spooky. Netflix has the isode if you are curios.
Now back to the episode.....
-
Not a big DS9 fan but one of these days will watch it again. I'm. TNG and Voyager fan.
-
I had to look it up and I will say that those 2 episodes where pretty grim and gritty.
@scottalanmiller I probably missed 1 to 2 episodes a month for 2 seasons before I gave up on DS9. Missed too much and was too hard to find the time. Voyager was worse, I saw 4 episodes in 6 months. I watched all of Voyager last year on Netflix and was pleasantly surprised with the series. Aftewards, I watched all of DS9 too. I grew to appreciate DS9's long and winding tale and was bummed that the series was over.
-
@technobabble I keep hearing that DS9 is a hidden treasure that just takes more effort. It lost me on its original run though. I'll try it again sometime.
-
@scottalanmiller Just watched an episode where the Tom Riker (Will's alternate ego from the alternate universe) stole the Defiant and almost created a massive war with the Cardassians. They've had couple of these alter egos appear now.

It brings some of TNG together for me, being that the shows were on almost at the same time. The stories do intertwine a bit. Sisko is a bad ass though.

The Mirror Universe stuff can be interesting, but it got a bit old.
In one of the "Shatnerverse" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shatnerverse#The_.22Shatnerverse.22 books, William Shatner had Spock and Spock (and maybe Data I forget) figure out the split that the Mirror Universe was from was actually due to the events in the movie First Contact.

It's all Odo's Dominion. They are the cause of all the turmoil
Damn changlings!
-
Maybe while the family is gone I will give DS9 a try. @Dominica likes Star Trek a lot but not that series nor Enterprise. But she likes the original and loves TNG and Voyager and the movies
-
Loved the Enterprise series, especially Mirror Darkly.
-
Not Enterprise? why not? OK I have to give you that the season about Xindi was pretty bad.. but the rest I really liked!... and the mirror universe episodes were awesome!

It was like the first episode didn't do it for her and that's all the more chance she was going to give it.

I wouldn't have continued watching TNG based solely on the first episode... Tell her to give it another chance..

DS9 is VERY good. Just gets better and better. I think it aged better than THE NEXT GENERATION.. You are in for a ride.
Then give Babylon 5 a whirl. It is like DS9 but richer.

Voyager is enigmatic to me. It started out better than any other Trek series. The premise was good dropped too early. Would have liked to have seen more conflict with the split crew for a while longer and a little more awe and less "old hat" and "TNG in the Delta Quadrant." Also, the characters didn't seem to grow much as the did on DS9 or Babylon 5 (cough, Harry Kim, cough.) That said, it is quite an enjoyable show. I really liked Janeway especially when she was in hardbutt mode. When she would chew her crew out and then when they left, you would see her human side in how she wishes she didn't have to be so hard on her crew. The Doctor rocked and Seven of Nine did bring some better stories. Wish they hadn't made the Borg less scary. Best epidoes of Voyager: Conterpoint, Blink of an Eye, just about anything to do with The Doctor.
And yes, I was bummed when DS9 was over...when they pulled back from the station and it was over, it was tough. I did read the continuing books and they were pretty good.

When Sisko went bald, it changed everything!

I stopped watching Enterprise a little into the XINDI season..."Extinction" was so bad I never returned to it until years later...jumped ahead and watched Mirror Darkly and the eugenics war trio of episodes and enjoyed them.

Be careful, you can never trust those Cardasians.
