              First thought: WHY?
Second thought: Don't want to know

Because I didn't want to build it on the slowest internet this side of dialup. And I can import the .vmdk drive into just about anything, in addition to being able to run it anywhere VirtualBox is.

Mostly it was the not wanting to build it while using very slow internet. The export is all of 2.4GB, so a usb stick and an import job on the other XenServer, and I'll have XO at that site up and running in a half-hour instead of all day.

I'll bring the stick with me to MangoCon, I didn't connect any servers yet so it's still bone stock fresh install. The sneakernet will rule them all!

Sounds hard. You mentioned your poor line before, but it feels like being back in 1999. I'm currently planning for some offsite backup / syncing of VMs using our 10G uplink...

I'd say don't get me started, but I'm already started. Cleveland has a 100GB network in place by the same "Public Non-Profit" that has fiber running right outside my door. Yet the fastest speed we can get at home is 50/5. The biggest joke I've seen in cable marketing isn't from Comcast or TimeWarner, but MCTV (the local cableco) advertising 'DOCIS 3.0 speed!' '10mb!'. To be fair, they did stop that stupid bit after I sent them a nastygram saying "You realize that's DOCIS 1.0 speed, right?"

I should get a business license just to see what it would cost me for a direct feed from Level3.... actually........ might have to seriously consider that, business licenses don't cost all that much, and the fiber is literally on my front lawn.

Got a next-release Xen Orchestra built in VirtualBox. Get it exported and happy geek 😄

                                          Nice, but why VB?

Because I didn't want to build it on the slowest internet this side of dialup. And I can import the .vmdk drive into just about anything, in addition to being able to run it anywhere VirtualBox is.

I suppose I could see how that could be beneficial...

Mostly it was the not wanting to build it while using very slow internet. The export is all of 2.4GB, so a usb stick and an import job on the other XenServer, and I'll have XO at that site up and running in a half-hour instead of all day.

Sounds hard. You mentioned your poor line before, but it feels like being back in 1999. I'm currently planning for some offsite backup / syncing of VMs using our 10G uplink...

Oh, we could get that sort of connection, it'd just cost more than our total monthly sales.

plus you need to manage other things too with faster lines, like adding "4K" and "3D" as keywords for your p*rnfilter erm blacklist to ensure productivity. From this point of view, your slow line safes you some work 😉
