Ideally I would like to go drive to drive, and not make a image.
-
Clonezilla will do Disk 2 disk.
-
I "think" that Clonezilla can go drive to drive, too. But I've never tried this so I'm kinda guessing. I know that just using dd will go drive to drive.

To my knowledge Clonezilla will do D2D but I've never done it. http://clonezilla.org/show-live-doc-content.php?topic=clonezilla-live/doc/03_Disk_to_disk_clone

@coliver FIRST OF ALL, BACK UP IMPORTANT DATA BEFORE YOU USE CLONEZILLA LIVE TO DO ANYTHING.
Sounds like a image isn't a bad idea

Yep, not a bad idea at all to have backups....

After I get this done, I am going to want to image the drive (240GB SSD) daily to the drive (2TB spinning rust)
The whole d drive is backed up offsite. What do you suggest for this? The SSD drive is for speed only.

Windows has a built in backup that may be something to check out. I think it was available on Server 2008R2.

@coliver I always forget about that. Thanks.
I guess Veeam Endpoint would work as well.
-
FWIW, I know there's a copy of Acronis True Image that is free for use with WD and Seagate drives.
-
@Danp but it doesn't work on Server OS
-
Samsung SSDs include a great disk imaging program - 100% success using their tool to clone a system onto a new SSD.

If you've got the cash I recommend the full version for any SMB that does a lot of imaging. Brain dead simple, reliable. It's not cheap.
-
I use Acronis True Image, works great.
To image a 60GB SSD would take no time at all. So disk to image isnt necessarily a bad thing.. But it does do disk to disk.
-
For a single instance of this any of the drive cloning software should work just fine (acronis and such). If you wanted an imaging solution I would recommend Fog.
-
I use Clonezilla to handle D2D stuff on occasion. It works perfectly fine.
That said, I would do Disk to image on a NAS and then image to new disk anyway just to have a backup, because paranoia.
During the restore process (or D2D if you go that route) you have specifically selected advanced mode and then hit the -k1 option on the very last screen to resize everything to make the rest of the space available once you boot windows on the new drive.
-
Clonezilla worked great! and fast!
-
Macrium Reflect or Acronis True Image will work.
Also backup with Veeam endpoint backup free and restore onto new SSD will also work too.
-
+1 for Macrium Reflect
