The RDP protocol is ubiquitous in the Windows world but a bit less common outside of it and finding the right tools to work with it can sometimes be confusing. I've found Remmina to be an excellent RDP client that works great and has a lot of features. It is included with a lot of distributions natively and even comes pre-installed on the otherwise sparse Ubuntu 16.04 desktop. Remmina comes on Mint and others through standard repositories so is very easy to acquire almost anywhere on Linux desktops.

Remmina supports RDP (tested against current Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS), VNC, SSH and SFTP protocols. Making it pretty flexible.

Lots of features, easy to use, widely available and works great. If you are going to be accessing resources, like Windows RDS or Windows VDI from Linux-based clients, Remmina may be the right choice for you.

I can't believe how well it does as an RDS client. I use it full screen and it's great.

In the bleeding edge version of it, it now supports RemoteApps and usage of the Remote Desktop Gateway as well.

That's good to know. I've been looking for one that supports RemoteApps and haven't found anything yet.

Their newer version does. I got some instructions for Mint that I can look up.... And Arch actually uses that version in their system.

Remmina has been around for while .. I last used it around 3 years ago, and thought it had some nice features, I did face some performance issues back then ... word has it that the newer version has improved ...

Does Remmina still use FreeRDP as the core ?

This is the first time I've been familiar with something you aren't. I think I'm going to have a drink tonight to celebrate

                      To whom is this directed?

So glad that they finally release and update for this. Now I am able to use a rdp gateway server. Before I wasn't able to and I had to use xfreerdp which kicked me out of my sessions a lot. Remmina seems more reliable.

Yeah, this seems to have improved a bit since I first started using it a while ago. It seemed clunky but now "just works" for me.

It's still not click & run if you download an RDP file for a RemoteApp, though. They have to be imported, and some settings copied in by hand. It's aggravating, but still do able.

                                    That seems silly.

Probably because it's part of the bleeding edge stuff, lol. But I've got a few Linux users running the Cisco Jabber client with it. Works great!

Remmina is a great tool. I've had excellent luck with it.
