$200 is for their EV (StartSSL Extended Validation) product. I believe that they are offering the base StartEncrypt service for free.
I'm sure someone will JIH and correct me if I'm wrong.

I used to use them for their free certs until I got into the LetEncrypt beta. StartCom ain't bad at all.

@dafyre Agreed. I think that LetsEncrypt built a better "mouse trap" and no StartCom is playing catch up...

You were more right than you probably realized! Start Encrypt is wide open! I'd ask who would have guessed, but that would be everyone here.

The annoying part I didn't get through last night is that I now have to remove all the StartCom certs from the trusted stores
