The dvd is for my test lab! that is just an old i7 970 with 24gb ddr3, an old 40gb laptop hdd for OS and 2 2TB seagate drives for storage. I suppose i could have used a usb stick.

        @olivier

        When you say

"The condition needed to do that is to have your local SR (created during the install of previous XS version) to be empty. This way, the XenServer 7 install could use this space for re-partinioning the whole drive in a proper way."

Is that also true if the local SR is not on the boot device?

For example how many of us have XS booting off USB but the local SR on a separate array?

I have this problem, I don't have a second XS to migrate to, so I need to do an inplace upgrade.

My second XS is just a desktop level machine. Works perfectly.

In fact, has been running production VMs (since the SSD array issue) with nary a hiccup for weeks.

I am hoping I can upgrade it, then live migrate everything off my production server (since XS7 is supposed to support processor masking better), then upgrade the production server, then migrate everything back.

Our XS stack is just about to be brought up at the NTG Lab in Los Angeles, so looks like we are going to get to have them do an XS7 install before we bring it online!

Has anyone found a feature set PDF of the new functionality and improvements for XS7?

Looking on xenserver.org I can only find the 6.5 release information.

Auto-updating Windows drivers, the Direct Inspect API and gobs of GPU updates are the big winers, I think.

Thanks. Yesterday it was definitely linking to 6.5.

SMB storage is now usable as a Default SR as well!

And import/export speed, of course! 🙂

Just because you can... does not mean that you should. SMB for SR is not a good idea.

So in your insistence that new versions of software like this are safe to install Day 1 ... safe to install Day 1?

I know there has been a lot of discussion on ML about the fact some people feel a need to wait for the initial bugs, but some say, go for it.

I was just being funny. I'm actually starting to really see the other side.

If for nothing else than to get away from the ridiculous licensing.

This has been in testing for a long time and is production released now. If you were going to wait... what would be waiting for?

NFSv4 is available now too, but like SMB, don't use it. NFSv3 is the leader in file storage for things like VM storage.

I know there has been a lot of discussion about relocating log files and swap files/partitions if you boot off of USB.

How do you think this new version, having separate partitions for these tasks, will affect this?
