Windows 10 Replacement for Movie Maker

In Windows XP and Vista, you could use Windows Movie Maker to pull and edit video from a Digital Video Camera.
This isn't really available for Windows 10, while you can still download it, and it will still work, .. is there a better solution?
I have it all set with Firewire, so the transfer isn't an issue. Just pulling it off.

Movie maker never was anything much. Check on premiere pro and premiere elements. Avid now has made a free version of its media composer (very high end) but I haven't tried the free version.

Seems like Avid media Composter | First won't be available for a while still.

I just posted a list of free and open source Movie Maker replacements the other day, there should be some things on that list worth checking out.

I don't think new apps that appear now are going to support Firewire from a camera, everything is USB/SD card based these days.
I'm guessing you are using a DV tape based camera?
You could look into a video interface card for your PC, then connect the camera to that interface so you can record the output of the camera into the PC as a digital file, then ingest into your editor of choice.

FireWire is still supported by all the professional NLEs. Dobut anything free will the codecs cost

Yes, It's a Sony Mini DV - DCR-TRV19 HandiCam...It's a few years old.... like around 12 years.. I have the PCI-Express card, cable and all for Firewire,.. just need the application to pull the video from it.

Okay. I have the Camera, cable, Firewire PCIExpress card. I need to PULL the video from the camera to the computer so that I can work with it.
Working with it isn't so much of the issue. But I need to move it from the Camera <to> the computer. MS Windows Movie Maker had the ability to import / copy / whatever right from the camera.

It is Tape.. That is one thing that MS WMM had going for it,.. while not the best solution, it could 'control' the camera and capture to file, either manually, but time or by file size.

Well, you can thank people using Apple's term for IEEE1394. The real name is just IEEE1394. Calling it FireWire or i.Link is the issue. Just call it by its real name and it gets much clearer
