Seems like a solution without a problem. I suppose it could be good for offline use.
Why would you think offline? you'd install it on a server not your own computer.
They offer desktop installers for their Word / Excel / etc. clones.
Where do you see that.. all the installers I see are for server based. Window, Linux etc.
The dekstop editors aren't free. You have to have the web version as SaaS from them then you get keys to use the desktop apps from what I read, So it's web based with an optional desktop addon. Not desktop only as an option.

Just found it you can get just the desktop app for $39 per computer per year.
Or for the SaaS version it's $2 per user per month with a min of $360 a year.

I'll just stick with LibreOffice....

@Jason the desktop editors are free for personal use - http://www.onlyoffice.com/blog/2016/03/onlyoffice-desktop-editors-for-your-pc-or-mac-are-out/ Moreover, if you need it to work with documents only, you can connect your personal ONLYOFFICE account - https://personal.onlyoffice.com that is also free of charge and allows to connect different account like OneDrive, ownCloud, Dropbox etc and work with all your documents in one place.

Very poorly done method on the site, obiously meant to confuse people into buying. This is one of those "stay far away from" companies that you can't trust anything they do then. I would never use a company like that for work or personal.

It's AGPLv3, so that should cover most of the information about how you can use it.
-
I have not tried it yet, strangely this is the first that I've been made aware of it. It has the right ideas, at least, the license is good and it is HTML5 Canvas based. So worth checking out.

The Desktop app isn't I believe just the web app.
The desktop app they cover up as much info as they can:

Oh, I see. Well the hosted app was the big that made sense for me. I didn't look at the desktop one at all. Didn't even notice it, actually.

Never did I which is why I was wondering why they were talking about desktop/offline use.

Which part is confusing again?
Right from the main home page, click "Solutions" and the bottom one says "Desktop". On that page is a big "Download" button.
The license is a very common "free for home, pay for business". Or free if you are a SaaS customer. They offer the infrastructure as cloud-hosted, paid. Or install on your own server, AGPLv3. Or just use desktop apps, free for home, pay for business.
The whole cloud/saas vs local deploy vs desktop app may confuse things but just a few minutes looking sorts it out.
Of course they want to promote their full enterprise SaaS cloud version the most.
In any case, I think I'll give these a try and see howe they work. I like Libre Office alright, but don't like the 15 year old looking interface. Wish they had some GUI designers give things a fresh look.

Sorry, @Jason. The information about "FREE for home/personal use" is indicated on the Desktop page - http://www.onlyoffice.com/apps.aspx

@Tati Welcome to the MangoLassi community, by the way!

Just as a followup to this. I created a VM of Win 7 and installed the desktop apps which are clearly labeled as "free for home":
After opening the app though, it immediately says I can't open or create local files without a license, and sends me to the purchase page. I see no options at all about using the free version. I don't know how to unlock it or where to get a free license?
Oh well, would have liked to try it.
-
So it's not free as I assumed with the huge "try now" button. ...
-
I just see no point to it when there is LibreOffice.

Their claim is perfect compatibility with MS Office. But unless that is true, then I agree, for local installs LibreOffice is free, active, has huge market share, available everywhere, etc.
The HTML5 based option, though, is pretty interesting.

Collaboration is coming to LibreOffice also. I for get where I read it, but I think it was a thread hear a year or two ago.

That's going to be awesome.
