I went to the Heart, Cheap Trick, Journey show a few years ago at SPAC. Heart and Cheap Trick were fantastic but something happened with the Journey audio and it was cracking and way too loud, even for a concert. People all around us even the ones decked out in Journey gear were leaving and asking what was going on.

Is it just me, or have live entertainment taken a huge jump in costs? When I was in high school, floor seats to a concert were $35-$55. Today they start at $150 and can easily go to over $500 (and these are box office prices, not scalper prices).
Larger population and smaller venues driving higher costs? but the venues aren't even that small.
It seems like live entertainment is quickly becoming something only for the rich, or at least for the higher middle class.

We still can get decent lawn seats at Bethelwoods (where woodstock took place) for 40-100$. Although the 4 or 5 concerts we've gone to there were nothing spectacular. I would prefer going to a bar with small crowd to see live music or staying home and listening to the album 90% of the time.

We do have a few outdoor venues like that as well - but the big names are never that cheap - and they don't play the outdoor venues because they are to small in our case, and even if they did, the cheapest tix I would imagine would be $100.
Miley Cyrus was in town many years ago.. it was insane I think the crap tickets were like $200 each. To cut down on scalping, they required that the buyer of the tickets actually go in (show ID) with the group of tickets - but that didn't stop the scalpers... they just charged so much over the top to cover their ticket. Once they walked the people in, they just turned around and left.

It's still cheap here in the UK for 99% of acts. I'd say most gigs are around $20. What's happened is that prices have sky-rocketed for that 1% of huge stars - the likes of Taylor Swift plus all the heritage acts like Springsteen and The Stones and that's what people tend to focus on. Just like in real-life, inequality between the top 1% and the rest has increased.

Every show in atlanta, large or small, is expensive, and is had definitely gone up substantially in the past 5 years. And it's such a huge PITA to get to any of the larger venues that I don't even bother. The mid level venues here have the best shows, but they are getting a little spendy. There is a Jimi Hendrix tribute show coming up, with an amazing lineup (Billy Cox, Buddy Miles, Zakk Wylde, Dweezil Zappa, etc), and tickets are up around $90 if you want to be anywhere near the stage. I blame 3rd party ticket sellers and promoters... greedy bastards.
