I wonder if it's because it's possibly a trial? Does that affect how they track data? I'm assuming it's a trial because I can't imagine paying for Windows Enterprise just to test this.

Right, he is blocking everything and I assume the machine is not even licensed. There are a ton of not real world issues with this.

He also never stated (have not read the update) if he confirmed in Windows if the settings were still disabled. Yes, he said off during install. But, did he confirm that they are off in settings of the running instance?

I hear what you are saying here - but that's not really a fair ask in my mind. The reason I feel this way is because what home user would ever go back and check after setting them during setup?

It's more close to real world by not checking, and simply assuming, even if it's wrong, it's closer to reality.

That is not relevant. He is claiming to do this to show what is happening. If you are going to claim a setting is set, then you need to show that you have verified the settings.

Yes, it is not something the general public would do. But if you are going to want to show something more than a sensationalist headline, you need to follow through on details.

You don't have to change anything, but you should note what the settings are. Yes you specified they should be off, but I have personally once seen them enabled even after I disabled them during install.

Interesting stuff. I wonder how Spybot Anti-beacon will handle it.

@JaredBusch Good points. Wasn't there also a windows update that reset the settings?

Number's not important - OK insider program.. I'm not bothering... so it's all good.
You're probably talking about Redstone - it's been out since December.. though it's constantly rolling forward too.
