What Are You Doing Right Now
-
Spent the weekend jumping through various hoops to get my new Raspberry Pi Zero working. First my desktop's internal SD card reader wouldn't turn on, then I had to go out and get a powered USB hub so I could plug in everything I needed for the initial OS setup... Overall you definitely have to spend significantly more than $5 to get "the $5 computer" to actually do stuff, but almost all of it is stuff you can reuse on your next Pi so whatever.
I also found out the hard way that our main TV is the only thing with an HDMI port where I live. It felt funny installing Raspbian using the main house TV, but once I got the OS + WiFi configured I got it running headless without too much trouble.
I'm still at the point where my mind is blown every time I look at it. I skipped the regular Pis so the next smallest computer I've owned is a laptop. Now I have a computer that's smaller than a business card. I posted a picture of it on Facebook and my Dad asked me if the Pi was "like... the chip?" that you put in a full computer.
Next steps - getting some wires so I can connect some GPIO components!

In other words, what am I doing right now? On a break wishing I was at home so I could fiddle with my new toy some more. Alas.

I have a PM backlog on SW of over 1000 messages. trying to trim it down.

No new season 4 was tempted to go original but maybe another day lol.
Got upto end of season 5 when aired but stopped watching it, so thought rather than catch up just watch from start again lol

We need to do a fourth time fully through with the kids. They love it and have done all of the new seasons end to end thrice.

Well I could either be a savior there or it would be terrible. I can't tell yet.

Calling it a day here. It is late and I want to play a game or something before going to bed. I've been at the computer from 8am till 11pm. It's a little much.

Moreso save them or be pigeonholed and not able to help them. They use virtualbox for their Virtualization. All windows servers are physical and they are running virtualbox on those.
The guy told me that Xen/XenServer and KVM were not good (I really don't think he's ever even heard of them but only said that when I mentioned them), and they don't have enough money to use them..........
He told me he's used Linux since 0.99 (I think it was a joke? But with him I'm not sure) and he kept saying he wants to use pfsebse for everything, but currently they're using off the shelf netgear stuff....

huh - what would your position be? If you're under the guy who told you that - I think I'd have to run away. I suppose you could have a frank conversation with him. "Listen, I really like what I see in your company, but man, your IT stuff really is just not up to current standards. In order for me to take this position I'd have to have budgetary control of IT and autonomy." Without something like that is sounds like this guy would just run you into the ground.
Good luck.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I have to see what the pay is. The job is an "IT Specialist" but they advertised they wanted Linux experience which is why I applied. It's a 90% windows shop so I don't know why they advertised that, because from how he described it they aren't going to change that. So unless the pay is out of this world, I think the decision has been made for me.

So I just noticed that you can add an SSH tunnel in Remmina. You don't need to manually do
ssh -L port:host:port user@host
first. You can just add the host under the ssh tunnel section and it does it automatically. -

Doesn't even sound like an IT shop, sounds like some kid whose never been around IT trying to set things up off of things he say on a TV show.
