Who's getting a new phone in 2016?

Might get one,.. most likely be the Apple model since we have had a Apple since the 3gs.. and since we still have the full AT&T unlimited plan (though it went up).. likely to stay there too.
I was on the AT&T unlimited for a while too. Had a work discount and was paying $105/month for a phone and tablet with 450 minutes. My data usage was only 2.5GB max on 1 month in 2014. Switched to the mobile share plan. Unlimited minutes, text, and messaging. Did the 4GB plan but support gave me 6GB for $5 less for being a "loyal customer". Also has rollover data so I usually have 10-12GB per month. Only paying $75 total now. Might be worth looking into if you don't have high data use like me.

I think we'll be buying the first phone for one of our children, the 11 year old.
Almost definitely an iPhone 6.

I'll look into that.

Got an iphone 6s on the release date, most likely will be 2017 before I get another one.

waiting on iphone 7

I am on a new every year plan. So I will probably get whatever is new next fall.

I'm debating what I want to get.
Currently have a 640 XL - and other than missing a few apps, I'm pretty happy with it - though i want Windows 10 on it already!Debating on a 950 XL or jumping back to an Android - though I have no idea which one. The Galaxy S4 was pretty good for the first year I had it, but the second year was pretty horrible, battery wouldn't last a full day, speed was slow, just not pleasant.

I have the Note 4 (Verizon) and am on 5.0. I would love to move to 5.1 and was thinking of the Note 5 prior to its release until it was confirmed it was a sealed back with no SD card slot. I wonder if enough other people care about this anymore or this will be the trend. Those are two reasons I don't like the iPhone (there are many others).
So it boils down to what the Note 6 will be like or if there are any other great phones with similar features and better specs coming out this year.
-
Is there rumor that the Note 5 will have an SD slot? I just can't see Samsung moving away from the sealed unit.
-
I'm interested in a new iPhone. I have the 6.. Not quite interested in updating to the 6S yet though. I do like that Hey Siri can always be on on the 6S but It's not worth the difference in price right now (I'd be buying used though.).

@Dashrender Note 5 came out several months ago. It is sealed with no SD card slot. It would be the 6, rumored for this year's release that I am interested in.

Same question - is there a rumor that it will have a SD card slot?

@Dashrender I have not heard anything about the sealed/sd card aspect- I have seen 16-core CPU, 30MP Rear-Facing camera/16MP front, 8GB RAM, 4K 6"+ flexible screen, coming in 32,64,128,256GB versions. I doubt most of it is true, though.

I have a bad feeling the battery in my Nexus5 is starting the downward spiral. Sad to me because it's a very good phone. Wonder how hard it is to replace the battery... gotta go search ifixit.
I think I've seen that you can just pop the back off and replace it.

Not quite that easy. The connectors are underneath the internal plastic shield, so tiny driver tips are called for. Should have everything I need besides a battery tho.

The flex screen thing seems hilarious to me. It seems unlikely that the circuit board that holds the components will be all that flexible, so does this really matter?

I may or may not get a new phone this year. I got my Note 4 in the Summer of 2014, a few months after moving in here... Note 4 has been awesome. The thing that sells the phone for me is the decent stylus that comes with the phone.
I'd probably consider the Google Nexus line of phones if I don't like what the Note 6 is going to be... But really, I need to start having problems with my Note 4 before I consider upgrading. It seems to be rock solid for me.

Ooh, I knew you could pop the back off, whatever I read must not have actually done it then. Ha nevermind.

A bit. The glass shatters way, WAY before the board starts to bend.

Exactly - so what is the point of a flexible screen?
