I like this. It would make my 24 hour NY to TX drives not so bad if the car could do it for me.
Exactly! no more stopping... you can drive straight through (maybe you do). Even if you already do, this will definitely be much safer.. and I love the idea of reading or whatever during this time.

We currently drive straight through, but are exhausted at the end. Being able to work while on the road would be a big plus.

@Dashrender um i think you still need to stop for gas you won't get very far without it

@JaredBusch that's pretty cool! What do you think @scottalanmiller? I ask because of your blog post from 2007 (I believe).
Looks like they are making good progress. Getting cars to be able to drive in existing conditions is the first step. Once we get all cars working this way, the intercar communications and communications to the signally system will be the really big gain. That's when the truly amazing things can happen. But this is a necessary first step to begin the transition. I'll get one as soon as there is an all electric, self driven car... I'm there.

Sadly, I'm sure that even though thousands of people are killed by human driven cars a year, it will only take one death by a Google car for campaigns and politicians calling to ban them.
Yes, that's the real problem. It won't be about overall safety or improvement, people hate "different", there is so much invested in the status quo.
