Also my future boss talked to me again early last week and again said that I did have a job (and bonus) and I shouldn't worry. I asked again about getting more money for adding 10 hrs per week and all the miles I will be driving and he said there wasn't any more money at least for the first 6 months to a year. I don't know how his math works but that sounds like a pay cut to me.

That he's telling you "not to worry" and "there is no money" is fishy. Nothing about that situation sounds good. Nothing sounds "horrible", but certainly not good. Pay cut, worse working conditions on top of the cut, high stress, and high risk of being cut. Worry!!

That he's telling you not to worry and clearly you have to worry is bad. That he's telling you that you have a job in the same breath that he's kinda lying about you not needing to worry suggests a little that you don't have a secure job. That there is no money for a raise and you have to take a paycut screams that your job is in peril.

Once a job position begins the process of moving backwards, they never really fix that. This isn't some law of the universe or anything, just realistically no company ever takes a situation where they've convinced staff to work longer hours for less money and then later says "we should correct that." It's the beginning of the end. Might be two months, might be twenty years, but it means that there is no reasonably chance that your future career with the bank will ever be as good as it is today.

Yup... I personally have a clear conscience to look for a new job and fortunately I have time to find one that I really want and will enjoy since the merger is 5 months away. I am also able to look in any city that I want to look which is pretty cool.

The risk is complacency or getting tricked into thinking that staying might be okay.

2nd interview for the PM position is in the works of being scheduled. 🙂

My current boss and I have a great relationship so I did inform him that I've got some nibbles happening and will probably need to get some time off to see what happens. He totally understands and is also frustrated with how little communication there has been with the new people. I also fully trust him that he isn't going to spill the beans to them.

I was just given an offer from this MSP for a Project Manager position. Not as much money as I want but more than what I'm making plus extra stuff to sweeten the deal. Benefits are a touch better but a bit more expensive.

I'm going to take the holidays to think about it but it seems like a pretty easy decision even though I feel bad jumping before the merger is complete.

Congrats. Yes, it sounds like a good company and a good position and better than the alternative and a good, overall, career move. Even if this job doesn't end up being ideal, it sets you up for a better future than just staying put.

Notice was given and they tried to get me to stay at least until the merger date and even tossed money at me. Rather than take the risk of loosing this job opportunity I decided to say no. They were understanding and admitted that they are just being greedy and had to try and keep me. So there it is. I start on Jan 18th as a PM for an MSP. Let the fun begin!

It's funny they said they were being greedy? While that may be true, it really depends more on who told you that.

So... I was invited to the new jobs annual party tonight but I don't start working there until next Monday. I think it's pretty awesome to be invited before I even start... It's like they really like me!
