I've heard good things about ClearOS. Have not had a chance to play with it myself yet.

I thought ClearOS was supposed to be a Home-User type thing at first. I Spun up an install of it a little bit ago. It's shiny. I haven't actually installed anything with it yet.

I do like how the Market Place has everything laid out though.

Let me add one more to the mix! http://www.nethserver.org/learn-more/

Was actually looking at the difference between ClearOS & Zentyal and few things looks interesting on the features:
File server with folder auditing- Not sure if others have this
              Owncloud based access

I think his ClearEyes picture was being sarcastic, ha ha ha.

My biggest issue with the ClearOS platform is how they so heavily push the paid version, without giving much detail on what it does.

ClearOS also has support for Windows built in, not sure about AD.

What does "support for Windows" mean?

I liked ClearOS 5, it was a solid system. Pulling in a bunch of standard Linux functionality and putt g a solid GUI on top. Much like putting FreePBX on top of Asterisk.

But they really screwed it up hard when they abandoned CentOS as the base system in favor of their own branch of Fedora.

I didn't know that. I think the last time I used it was 5 and I haven't used it since. I didn't realize they switched. Thanks.

So I tested ClearOS and its not bad. Compared to Zentyal the screens load much faster and config changes happen faster too. Must be something in the validations?? My biggest complaint is I cannot test everything without buying it. Zarafa. etc are not free even in the community edition. Id give it 3 out of 5 stars since I couldnt test all the functionality and because as you stated, this is a wrapper to manage all the packages and features they decide you should run in the distribution linux they choose.

Going back to my plan of testing LDAP\Samba4 and OX App on CentOS.

                                  thx

I think I started the nethserver install once and got hung up on something or distracted and didnt go back to it. Ill be happy to install it and see how it compares.

Another thing that I was a little put off by with ClearOS is monitoring add-on was not free. Im not sure what they are offering but Nagios Core is freely available.

Some time I will need to put together a real technical analysis of these to break down the pros and cons, because they each have their own benefits and drawbacks.

Rolling out several more Linux machines here today and hopefully will be building out some demo environments of what a 100% Linux environment would look like.
