Anyone decided to buy Surface book?

Microsoft Book Tablet / Laptop in 1 unit.
It's a pretty slick piece of hardware.

I got to play with one in a Microsoft store. VERY nice.

If NTG wants to give out MangoCon Prizes this might be a Grand Prize (the 1TB /i7 16GB RAM and a dGPU of course)

First I've even heard of it!
You mean haven't heard of Surface book? Thats surprising

It's not quite fully baked, I reckon book 2 will nail it on the "I want one" factor.

Yes, been waiting for Surface Pro and i had almost decided to get the 4, and then MS dropped the book and i am confused!
Its a high power beautiful machine, and the reviews seems to be good except some reporting the battery time. Still confused if i get a Pro 4 for now and later on may be get the book on the next version

Do you have a mint in your back pocket? lol
Sure if money was no issue, I'd get a Book and a Book 2 when released.

When it comes to the UAE, we have a plan on our credit card, for an islamic bank, any electronics you buy, you get 0% instalment plan for 6 months, I am not using my cards for anything, and this is a good deal for me, most of my devices when i buy i used this

The flaws as I've heard them so far on the Surface Book:
top heavy, this causes it to not balance well on your laptop making it near unusable on your lap.
Battery life of tablet piece is only 3 hours
other minor glitches, being fixed through software updates. All this said, I really like the look and wish I had the $2K to drop on one, but my 2 year old Yoga Pro 13.1 really does everything I need it to today, so it would only be spending money for a new toy.

I really don't have a laptop now, at work i have a massive Lenovo W540 for my SP works, its 32GB RAM laptop. At home i have an iMAC and use iPAD mini. There are times where i wanted to have a laptop but been waiting for Surface pro 4

$1500 to start? Um.... no.

yeah, sadly I think they are trying to pull an Apple.

It's interesting that they're so verbal about it being a Macbook competitor, but I understand it because the Mac market is that giant piggy bank that PC vendors want to bust open. I see it more as being a Helix, or a HP Spectre x360, competitor. Powerful, full of ports, detachable. The discrete graphics in the base is very cool. If you have that base the battery life will shoot down to the 4 hour range.
I think MS is really hitting a niche market here. I've conducted heavy trials with 4 other hybrid machines and each one had its flaws; you have to pick your two most important features and sacrifice the rest. This one, even at its price-point, could take the cake.

That's exactly how I felt when I saw it.

I'm not going to buy one but I would not be opposed to the idea of them sending me one just because.
Ā
I once emailed Microsoft (years ago) if they could give me a copy of Windows 7 in exchange for a hug, they politely declined. -
Our owner has given a lot of management promotions and since I am the one and only IT Director, I get a Surface Book. So, I am an owner of Microsoft Surface Book (512 GB, 16 GB RAM, Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce graphics).
Impressions after one week? I'm impressed. I am a long time Surface user, having used every version, including both RT iterations. My "dream" was to have a top of the line ultrabook that was also a 2-in-1 and had a GPU. This fits the bill. All of my favorite STEAM games run perfectly on it. Some need a tad lower resolution (ALIEN: Isolation) but still plays and looks great. Battery life is decent. The screen is amazing to look at. I don't pop off the screen much but I like having the option. It is a great developer machine and all around daily driver.
If I had any concerns, I've seen a tad bit of screen flicker but nothing to get alarmed about yet. The hinge is great but I do question longevity. But that's really it.
The Windows store is still a wasteland and universal apps are still not taking off. So my solution? Use Chrome and it's SAVE TO DESKTOP option and OPEN AS WINDOW and it is like having "apps" when saving certain websites.
If purchased for you, I say go for it. It is pricey, even for a very quality product.

What GPU does that have?
