Apple Mac OSX Malware Soars in 2015
-
According to an internal AV maker study on their own research, Mac OSX malware has climbed so quickly in 2015 that malware detection rates are fives times higher at this point in 2015 than in the previous five years combined meaning an increase of 25x - 50x (2,500% - 5,000%!) Those are incredibly numbers.
Research shows that Mac OSX malware writers are not targeting the underlying UNIX mechanisms of the platform and are not porting malware from other platforms like Linux or FreeBSD but are instead targeting the unique user space mechanisms of OSX itself. The complex nature of OSX creates a lot of means by which OSX itself can be used opportunistically to host and manage malware through built in operating system mechanisms.

I've said this for a long time, the bigest problem with mac is that it's just layering things on top of each other for year and years without ever re-writing.
