What would you call the key used from ACER, Dell, HP, etc.
That is the OEM key. My question was are you sure your system was using that key prior to the upgrade?
I have no reason to think that the key would have been changed.

What version of Windows 10 is on it now? what version of Windows 8.1 was on it before?

@Dashrender Me? Home Premium and the Win 10 Home Premium edition, I think... I wish they'd take a play out of Apples play book... One Desktop OS without the 10871320487210437 different licensing options.

I thought there were only three versions of Windows 10. Home, Professional, and Enterprise?

I think there are more because of the smaller than 8 inch screen, but there might not be an actual license difference, only a "i know what size screen I'm installed on, so I know I'm free" portion to the code.. not sure.

I think it's 3 to many, perhaps 4 if you include the new free license for devices with screens smaller than 8 inches.
IoT should definitely be it's own license,
Free smaller than 8 inches
everything else. From there it would be nice to see something like a feature pack that businesses buy when they need DA, etc.

Trying to go back to 8.1, not being helpful either. the can't validate the files on the USB drive the Recovery Manager created.

Bad recovery media then? I generally find a similar machine and create a new media. Probably be hard for your home setup.

Hahaha....(not really)
Recovery partition is missing (some how)
The USB recover drive I created - not validso to go back to 8.1 I have to order the media at $45 plus tax (and I'm sure shipping).
Nice.

I have an acer laptop purchased just before Christmas last year. It was running 8.1 I still have the recovery media for it on a USB drive. want me to image it for you?

If you have the time, that would be great.
-
This is the model I have.
-
Using imageUSB to create the image file.
Looks like 15gb. I'll drop you a line when it is transferable.
-
Cool thanks
I have the R14 which was only available via BestBuy...
But it should still work.

This was bought at best buy also, but assuming that Acer is like most companies, the recovery will be similar. Hopefully similar enough.

I would think it should be close enough - like you said,.. assuming it is like most companies.
I do have another fall back option.. just a matter of coordinations.. Former co-worker has the same laptop (it's his fault I bough this thing).. so push comes to the last line,..I might be able to get it from him.....
Maybe.
