Visit spice space and install the guest tools in your VM.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's outside my area of competance ATM.

      https://www.spice-space.org/download/windows/spice-guest-tools/spice-guest-tools-latest.exe

I had another look at this last night.
I've installed, sorry if this sounds a little confused, I'm not a Linux user, KVM/QEMU onto my Fedora laptop and managed to install a copy of Server 2016 as a VM. Only problem is I cannot get the mouse & keyboard to switch from physical to virtual hosts, it's a real mess, very very frustrating, so frustrating in fact I nuked Fedora & installed Ubuntu. But that's as far as I got last night.
I'm going to try my luck with Virtualbox on Ubuntu.

What is it with Fedora anyway? Seems like a darn fiddly thing to use.

Did you install the spice driver into the windows instance? If not, of course nothing works.

No mate I didn't, I wasn't sure what to do and it was getting late so I just changed plans. This entire thing is about learning new bits and pieces, so there's no grief with any of it.

Thanks everyone for all the help so far.

Have another system doing this this week. Been about eight hours so far. We are thinking that it is just doing the database rebuild and compression work. But it is insane how much CPU gets used for this.

Do you not have it doing this on a regular schedule?

Not my system, it was moved to a different server and had to be rebuilt.

This really old post gives a clue on what the structure is for their firmware numbering.

      http://forum.yealink.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1661

The template of Firmware name of Yealink phone is X1.X2.X3.X4

      (1) X1 means the Phone Model

      X1- Phone Model

      T4 Series
      35 - T48G
      28 - T46G
      29 - T42G
      36 - T41P

      (2) X2 means the Major version number

      X2-Major version number
      61 - V61
      70 - V70
      71 - V71
      72 - V72

      (3) X3 means the Custom or Neutral version

0 or 1 means Neutral version
Non 0 or 1 means Custom version

      (4) X4 means the Minor version
Yealink will release some minor versions after solving some bugs.

The lawyer and I got a bit nastier and finally someone in tech support gave up the "real" legal contact info after all kinds of run around. We've had their attorney respond now, after a month of going after them. They only responded when we got a bit more angry and included their upstream vendor in the conversation (they resell Tucows) so they had their partner watching them because they knew we'd be knocking on their door next to ask Sherweb to be shut down.

@coliver said in Raised Floor budget estimate:

Best option would be to get someone in to quote it out. I'm not a fan of raised floor systems I prefer overhead and if you have the space for a raised floor you often have the space to go overhead as well.

I have never dealt with a raised floor system, but I definitely don't want to crawl around if I can stand on a short step ladder instead. I had a very basic overhead ladder system installed in our server room and it is super easy to route new cables or pull old ones out.

Agreed. Though a raised floor looks much nicer, it is going to be less convenient for any maintenance. Usually aesthetics doesn't go along with convenience in my experience.

      @dave247

maybe this was answered here, but I was wondering if someone can correct me on this

If i put WIndows server VM with 2 cores on Hypervisor any brand which has 8 cores.

Do i need to license windows server VM for 2 cores or 8 cores ?

There are no cores at the VM level, those are vCPUs. Windows is licensed by cores, not by vCPUs. Cores are always physical, and the minimum is 16. No matter how you configure the VMs and vCPUs, you have to license 16 cores at a minimum.

A single vCPU could use sixteen cores or more to power it, the licensing is by the available power, not the configuration.

For connecting multiple switches (3 in this case), if your router has Gigabit LAN, is it best to to have a cord from 3 different ports on the router to each switch or to have the router go into 1 switch and then daisy chain the switches... or... does it really matter?

Neither. Router to Switch at the hub, then spoke other switches.

Correct. that is what I said, in a slightly more technical way.

The problem is solved after the below changes on the Databases:

      SET GLOBAL TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ COMMITTED; SET SESSION TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ COMMITTED;

      To verify :

      SELECT @@GLOBAL.tx_isolation, @@tx_isolation

This is MS' bread and butter. While I've not tried it, if it is officially supported I'd have little concern.

I picked up a refurbished HP Elite 8300 SFF for $300 about 4 years ago. I loaded the free offering from Sophos and have been running it without issue. It uses OpenVPN for remote access. I also have an IPSEC tunnel setup for work.
I did have to buy two NICs. Since it is SFF, I had to make sure that low profile brackets were included.

Was thinking this but could I add a WiFi card and make it into a Access Point as well. Since it for home the less kit taking power the better

I don't think it will let you create an AP. I grabbed a bottom of the line AP from Ubiquity. Works fine
