@thecreativeone91 The main issue/the point which force me to choose a mac is the fact that we have several users who work keynote files for presentation rather than PPT and needs to be shared during the Skype call. If it was for just skype call, I would like to get Logitech TV Cam HD which I am planning to get for our mini conference rooms, that only needs Skype for video/voice calls and no presentations.

What app store are you looking in? https://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store

The one on the phone. Worst feature of the phone. You search for a common app that you want and you get scores of results of malware, all with the exact name of the product and/or company that you were looking for.

I've never had that happen. and I've had a few different windows phones.

We had a few. But there is only one store. It was very much a "CloudatCost" level of service. Looked good till you actually search for an app then realized you had no assurance of which one was real. It made me appreciate the lock down of the iOS system that someone was vetting the vendors and at least attempting to ensure that products weren't trying to trick you.

Biggest ones were things like the Chrome browser. Search for it and it didn't exist, but hundreds of things called that did.

They've been advertising the CloudPro option for a while now, so I suspect it was functional at some point.

They've been SELLING CloudatCost for a long time and just this morning announced that it was never production ready. So that something has been advertised by them does not suggest that they were planning on it working.

It's funny noticing everyone on Twitter posting congratulating them on how well they handled this outage. Really? that's considered handling it well - especially when you had the resources to fix the issue the whole time with redundant links.

Yeah, the degree to which they failed is unforgivable. This was an intentional outage, not a mistake. They chose to keep it down all that time. And now, the servers that are back up are broken. No power cycles, no re-images. They have effectively lost the service completely.

Not sure how they claim they can backup esxi free at the vm level. That's disabled in the free version.

I did not even follow the link, but it is not trivial to perform VM backups with the free ESXi, but it can be done.

You have to enable SSH and then you log in that way, issues a snapshot command then SCP the snapshot off and merge the snapshot back in. There you go.

No, you cannot use the API stuff, but it can be done.

I see alot of conferences in Vegas, Orlando, and Atlanta because travel to those cities is so cheap. Its pretty easy to fly in or out of Orlando for right around $100 (one way) from anywhere on the East Coast. Vegas seems to be even cheaper sometimes under $100 (one way).

Exactly. And they are cities with huge accommodation to size ratios. It is cheap to get there, easy to get around, cheap to stay...

The easiest test here would simply be to set up her profile on a different system altogether.

Well, it is safe to say it was this Internet Monitor...Still off and no errors...and since their support has stopped responding to my emails, we may look for another option soon but it isn't high priority.

Doesn't take much on Ubuntu 😉

The CaseSentry application my company developed that does all the monitoring and case generation for basically everything we do here is built on Ubuntu. They use a MySQL backend. I was thinking of talking to the Dev guys and recommending they check out MariaDB to help improve performance.

MariaDB? I'd use postgres for something with monitoring

Ok, I'm kinda loopy today. You can replace MySQL with Postgres? Brain is running at half-speed at best today...

MariaDB is just MySQL forked. PostgreSQL is the big MySQL competitor. It's a different product but generally way more powerful.

Not cheap, I can buy a "real" house for less than that!

Many people build them themselve. If you take advatange of a local habbitat for humanity, you can build one for around $10k if you have the tools and the know how.

    That's not too bad then.

I highly suspect that Apple has been working on something secretly.

Have you seen anything that would indicate this? Based on Apple's post Steve Jobs' record they haven't innovated much in quite some time. I don't think they have ever officially acknowledged that anyone would want a keyboard for working on an iPad. I'm not trying to be critical, but a solution like this doesn't fit with the Apple I know and support.

It seems like I remember reading some things about OS X having touch screen support built in a couple of years ago, but I can't seem to find it now. Maybe it was a dream, lol. A cursory google shows up somebody with a youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeHFRpj_zC8) of the Yosemite beta with a Lenovo touch screen.

I fully expect to see "OS X" go away, and IOS become the next Apple OS... If they pull it off right, it will be like what Microsoft is trying to do with Continuum.

Why the heck are they using Quad CPUs instead of just 2x CPUs with High Core count. I think the core count on the CPUs they were using ways pretty low (quad core I think). Seems like that's being cheap. 8 & 12 Core CPUs are pretty efficient and cost effective these days (for what it is, 12 cores are about $1,000).

Eight cores according to their Facebook post. But still on the low side. The R810 doesn't have good efficiency with quad sockets, it's not architecturally meant for that. So the power per CPU is lower than you would expect. You need the bigger R9xx to get the real efficiency. They'd definitely do far better with beefier dual socket systems.

The primary issue with DreamHost is they hit capacity, a lot, because their unlimited everything often causes people to fill up drives, put in thousands of domains for their crappy WordPress "blogs," and the system itself does not automatically scale, new machines have to be set up and sometimes accounts moved around. Furthermore their front end does not communicate well with the backend so if there are these problems accounts are pushed to setup anyway and problems like @scottalanmiller's are created.

It's certainly an infrastructure problem, however since it's more of a classic shared host infrastructure it's going to take a lot of time, money, and effort to move it to something more scalable. They certainly seem to be moving in that direction, but when you have who knows how many people signing up per day and beating the absolute hell out of your systems, it's a long road.

Overall I've used them for about 10 years (personal stuff, DNS [yes, I'm serious]) and they're pretty great compared to other shared web hosts, especially when it comes to trust worthiness and user care, in other words I'd think DreamHost would feed my dogs if I asked them to, however I don't think Hostgator would -- if that analogy makes sense.

My work pays for my service on Verizon and they are pretty much "in between" Windows Phones as I do not think the Samsung ATIV or HTC One M8 are serious "flagships"...if my ICON died, I'd rather go back to Android or iPhone for a while if I had to...they seem to be behind the platform but still want to hear about coming flagships...

I don't think who makes the phones it really Microsoft's issues. They don't control that. The lumia's are the only ones they make. Windows phone 8.1 is 100% free. any manufacturer can make a windows phone or even a windows tablet and not have to pay for licensing. Blu Has many unlocked windows phone coming out and some already out. Nokia Lumia has done unlocked phone and even pentaband (like the lumia 920 pentaband) before, many it has every GSM frequency pretty much. All of Blu's phones are unlocked and under $200 full price.

I would like to vouch for @Nic and webroot.

I bought the home user edition last year for my PCs at home. I even had a free access to Sophos AV due to an agreement acheived with Sophos when we purchased the Enterprise Console. I have yet to use Webroot in a business environment, but I can tell you it is hands down the best client for home users. Its lightweight and it never gets in your way like other home AV products.

@Nic is a pleasure to deal with. He went out of his way a few times to help me with a home product. How many vendor employees will take 20-30 minutes out of your day to help with a low cost home product? I have yet to find one other than Nic. He isn't pushy at all. He knows the product will speak for itself once you install the trial.

I use chromium based browsers rather than chrome itself which had ties into google (and isn't open source I believe).

How would you compare the two?

It's the same just without the Google Bits and you have to install the NPAPI version of flash rather than use a built-in one as you have to have a special distribution license for Flash and Reader (IT Departments even need to request a free one and keep it on file to install flash or reader on their computers).
