I was under the impression that Mac Mail integrated nicely with Exchange (including Contacts & calendards, etc)?

    Has this been tested?

It does but it uses active sync only just like mobile devices so some of the features like sharing, public folders etc will be limited. It needs additional connections for that. Heck I think on Macs the GAL isn't even supported.

It's been a few years since I've touched a Mac on Exchange, but ours worked well with it, and Calendar sharing as well. (We didn't use public folders or anything).

In Apple Mail? He said no Outlook App

    Apple Mail != Outlook.

@JaredBusch actually you can clone a USB from a working xs install, use the clone to boot, and just go.

No need to repoint to the storage or make any changes.

JB's point I think is that if you have an old clone, the metadata might no longer be valid.

    epic eyeroll

    My point remains the same.

Our colocation has raised floors, fully redundant diesel generators, and 50k gallons of fuel onsite. The building is designed to withstand some crazy high winds (can't remember the exact rating, but we went 'wow'). Plus fully redundant internet connections with failover set up (assuming the 'net is still up during a bad storm or tornado).

I don't know prices in India, but that is almost exactly the cost of a nice Asus RoG like mine. I love mine.

    Yeah, but that's a gaming machine 🙂

Would probably go for a Latitude 5000.

Considering the industry standard to run VM hosts from USB sticks/SD cards.

No it is not. Never has been. I've debated this back and forth with @scottalanmiller more than once.

Hopefully his recent post today clarifies that.

    yep, it does.

Don't get me wrong, bulldozing and rebuilding for the sake of bulldozing and rebuilding is wasteful, even if it is good for the economy at large.

My question begins with - why did they all leave? Why is the new location so much better?

In the case of Omaha, when a shop leaves one mall for another mall, it's because the new mall is in a much more affluent neighborhood, i.e. the hope for more revenue. It's likely that the location will wither and die, and never be rebuilt.

We rarely see something where businesses move out, the building is razed, something new in its place with new tenants. Typically if this happens, it happens because the area has become more prosperous and a new building will attract more customers, so out with the old and in with the new to make even more money.

So as was previously mentioned, those dead malls (we have two of them). One turned into office space. The second one is mostly empty and has been for around 10 years now. This mostly empty mall could be turned into apartments.

How about making the LM box auto logon upon reboot. This will ensure desktop:0 is always running, then when you X2Go into it, you'll be a secondary connection, and your should should come from your desired location.

    I suppose one could.

For the now, I'm using the dying monitor to sign in with. it'll work long enough to sign in before the video goes out on it.

I had to try and find a key for QuickBooks here, what a nightmare. Didn't have the login for their online site, and getting a confirm sent by phone was impossible due to them only being able to send text message to the registered phone on the account. Or an automated call. the phone is an ip phone that cant get texts and is answered by an attendant, so neither of those worked.
So I had to call them. Or it, rather. Had some very nice and unhelpful computer voice tell me to talk to it like a normal person. Not happening. Hitting 0 doesn't work. Infuriated, I hung up, and proceeded to search through years of old email to find the key. Eventually found the key in an old file folder in a file cabinet.
Really wish we could get away from it.

@Mike-Davis said in usage data for RDS?:

@dafyre Thanks for sharing! The script doesn't find a connection broker, but I can troubleshoot that. I hard coded it and it gave me 0 for everything, but I can see where you were going with it, and it's pretty cool. I'll play with it and post updates.

I have better luck with this running actually on the connection broker.

If you're not running it on the connection broker, then the machine has to be joined to the domain, and have the Remote Desktop powershell modules installed.

Let me know how it works for you. 🙂

I have a couple of other tools for similar type things on the site.

@scottalanmiller i am planning to work with KVM so i asked can it afford a large scale of VMs or it only depends on the Storage and Hardware aspects ?.

Why are you planning on KVM, though? What made KVM the decision? Not only is this a point of interest, but whatever factors caused the majority of the decision to already be made will tell us a lot about what further decisions need to be made.

KVM and RHEV are the same thing. So they do the same scale. And they go bigger than any company you will ever work with. Digital Ocean and Vultr are both KVM.

And Linode, we are all using it right now.

True, and lots of others, too. MangoLassi is on Linode. IBM uses KVM extensively.

I'm going to be blunt 🙂

All the RMM tools I've seen are fairly lame, not brilliant, not exceptional, a lot of their customer base is using those tools because they have no other choice.

I wrote a piece on Continuum which you can find on here somewhere for feedback on that particular tool.

The thing that will make you better than any other MSP is the people you use. Have you got a gifted account manager who can bring in new work, manage the billing/accounts you have and so on. Technology, who is on your tech team? What fields will you cover.

Have you got sticky products/items to resell. VoIP, internet, backup, things where you can add value to the product the client gets in a meaningful way (Not just blindly reselling) whilst giving them another reason to consider you.

One company which seems to be a much smaller player: https://www.atera.com/
They are integrating with these guys: http://www.splashtop.com/sos

I've not seen a product or provider who I've gone "WOW, I must have it" yet though.

Mixing a lot of things here. You'd likely want to break this out. VMware vs. Hyper-V. Then VMware VSAN vs. VMware Starwind. Since Starwind is on both platforms.

The entire reason it came back up is that the unit rebooted itself (crashed) at 1300 CDT yesterday.

Use lvs once it is all set up to see what it is doing. I'm not sure exactly how it configures on top of LVM.
