I am interested in Xivo (whatever their new name is).

It is not production ready like FreepBX yet, but their goal of making everything accessible via REST API will make it a very flexible thing.

Me too, certainly lots of potential and I hate the FreePBX interface, so am hopeful there.

Let me know what you don't like if you have time!

Also the Wazo(XiVO) developers are great guys. A few of the FreePBX team (Rob Thomas ( @xrobau ) and I) talk to them ( @quintana ) weekly on IRC/Twitter and we've conversed over a hangout session and at Astricon.

Also - is connecting to the local desktop the only option on using that computers speakers?

I've installed MATE, and am able to connect via that now - but it plays Pithos using the main computers speakers. not what I want... when I have the stereo system on the other side of the room....

There should be options to tunnel the sound through the SSH session.

He wants to use X2Go as a remote control for the machine with the audio playing.

Ah ok. I read that wrong, my bad.

The client machine does not have SASL, so does not support usernames/passwords at all. A bit of a problem.

Set up here is just about 1 vm per service if running Linux. Jira, pydio, openvpn stuff, wordpress nextcloud(testing) XO, Unitrends, other web services those are all separate vms.
On Windows we do 1 as well, or more if it is easy. But I think file and print and wsus on 1 vm might be the only multiple service server we have. CRM, ADFS, Exchange, AD, Sharepoint are single service vms though, for obvious reasons. So by far most vms running 1 service here. Just makes it easier.

My new Mitel system does DHCP with no reservations, and when the phone comes on the first time, you have to log into as the extension so it registers with the Mitel system. I'm guessing form there it's probably MAC based (though that wouldn't work through a router, but who knows).

      @Minion-Queen

Just downloaded it, thanks. Looks like the free version is limited. Can't even transfer a call 🙂

Why do you want to transfer a call? Are you wanting a full featured softphone to replace a desk phone? Then pay for one. Software development is not cheap you know.

Yes, a full featured deskphone replacement. I would have every intension of paying for one, especially at $5. I was just making a comment that the free version was limited. I typically don't pay for one unless I test it first.

You have a perfectly working phone for free. If you want extra, then it is available.

That said it is $5 for transfer and conferencing on the app.

It is $40 for the desktop version.

Yep, agreed. So far, call quality is fine for me. And like I said, I don't really care about price, especially for 5 bucks.

BTW, as an alternative desktop app, I've found that Jitsi has been great as well.

      Aww, yeah that makes sense.

I keep getting stuck on the fact that a single (or RAID 1) drive (winchester) itself is so slow, so easy to saturate its throughput that is almost seems useless today. Of course this could be expanded out to then say, well if RAID 1 is useless, then RAID 5, 6, etc are even more so.
Please don't take that to be me saying RAID 1 is useless, of course it's not. Using RAID 1 for work loads that don't need a ton of storage or throughput, RAID 1 is great.

We don't back up workstations at all. It's a little different because it's RHEL but there is nothing on the workstations at all. Users can't even save to them. Apps, projects, archives, home directories, etc are all automounted.

      Automounting is the bomb.

Isn't that kinda the same as folder redirection, except that Windows can have a local copy in case the network location become unavailable?

The idea is the same. But the advantage on Linux/Unix is I can automount pretty much everything, including all of my applications. As long as everyone's path points to /apps or wherever you mount to they will run apps from there. Also since 90% of my system customization (themes, icons, etc) are in my home directory all of my customizations follow me as well (including my desktop 😛 )

Yeah, while there are times I like the registry, I do at times long for the days of Windows 3.x and config files for apps. Super easy to migrate, etc.

Even in the days of Windows 3.x and before, you still had a registry and regedit available. Just not so many reasons that you HAD to go change things in it.

I remember needing it for sound cards.

Instead of testing emails with a fax, get the email working itself first. Work on sending emails directly, once that is working, add in the fax piece. That will make this a ton easier to test.
